One of my favorite things to do in the summer around Corvallis is pick fruit! Davis Family Farm has two of my favorite varieties of blueberries, Blue Ribbon and Top Shelf. For strawberries, there’s a farm off of 34 just east of downtown that offers u-pick strawberries (they put out a sign when they’re available). For peaches, there’s The Peach Place when it’s open (also off of 34, near the golf course just east of downtown), or you can drive to Greens Bridge Gardens in Jefferson or Detering Orchards in Harrisburg (both of those also have apples and a variety of other fruit available).

My favorite restaurant is Khalo Naser, a Syrian restaurant that makes the best hummus ever. And for burgers and sandwiches and hand cut fries, I really like Bo & Vine.

And for those that have kids or grandkids, Osborn Aquatic Center’s Otter Beach is a hit on a hot day. They have a lazy river and a water slide that they’ll let you go down with babies and little kids on your lap. If a river is more your speed, Mary’s River Park in Philomath is a great place to hang out. And if you go after 3pm or so, there’s lots a shade. Lastly, I highly recommend taking kids/grandkids to the Northwest Art & Air Festival in Albany. My girls and I had a great time!

A favorite Corvallis activity of mine is to play pickleball with friends at one of the great spots in town. I have two favorite places to play. Adams School has many courts and shady bleachers to sit on. Adams almost always has a court free. Chintimini Park is a great setting; it only has two courts, but the park is lovely. Plus, it has sand volleyball, which is fun to watch after you’re done playing. I suggest bringing a picnic and making an afternoon of it!

My favorite thing to do in Corvallis is to paddle board or float the Willamette River, because it is a wonderful way to spend time outside and see Oregon wildlife. With cooler weather approaching, I am particularly looking forward to local events like the 2 Towns Harvest Party and the Corvallis Fall Festival. One of the things I love about Corvallis is how it offers something for every mood, whether it’s something bustling like a Beavers football game or more peaceful like enjoying the sunset at Fitton Green.

Here are some things I enjoy in Corvallis:

Hike/Walk at Chip Ross Park – There are several trails in this area. It connects to McDonald-Dunn Forest so you can extend your hike if you want. Great views of Corvallis, Mary’s Peak, sections go thru native Oak savanna, etc. Open year-round.

Koriander – Home-style Asian food. Traditional Korean dishes, but includes Thai & Japanese flavors.  Located at 215 SW 3rd Street in downtown Corvallis

Grass Roots Books & Music – Located at 251 SW Madison Ave in downtown Corvallis

While we live up near Portland, my wife and I have enjoyed finding the gems of Corvallis. As boardgamers and nerds, we were so happy to stumble into Gamagora, which has a great selection of games and a private gaming space. Corvallis also sports Guardian Games, where we picked up some accessories for one of our games, Azul. We are looking forward to spending more time in town and introducing our little one to the fun things in and around Corvallis.

Where to begin?! I love taking morning walks through the farmers market to admire the bountiful produce of the Willamette valley, pick up fresh fruit, veggies and flowers, and soak in the summer vibes. Added bonus is that we almost always run into friends!

My favorite thing about Corvallis is that I’m only an hour from the coast, which is my favorite place in the world to be.
