Welcome to our latest “Meet the Team!”
In this episode, you’ll get up close and personal with one of the pillar members of Clarity – our Director of Financial Planning, Kim Hall. Read on to learn about her interest, secret talent, favorite karaoke song and more.
Meet Kim
Kim Hall is a Certified Financial Planner® professional who is passionate about helping people make big changes in their lives. Whether it’s a new career, an international move, or retirement, Kim is there to guide her clients through the decision-making process. Her approach is to work together with her clients to identify what truly matters to them and then put a financial plan into place to make their vision a reality.
Kim draws inspiration from her parents, who each made the decision to make international moves as adults. She saw them navigate this process and build wonderful new lives in their new home countries. Leaving everything behind to start a new life takes courage and resilience, but it also requires navigating complicated and unfamiliar systems.
Originally from South Africa, Kim is now based in Corvallis, where she lives with her husband and two daughters. She fell in love with the outdoors in the summers and learned to embrace winter with the help of warm beverages, candles and snowboarding. When she’s not home, she can be found visiting family and friends in far-off locations such as Australia or South Africa, volunteering or at the gym. Adventuring (or sipping tea) through life with the people she loves brings her joy!
Kim holds a Global Financial Planner designation and is a member of the National Association of Professional Financial Advisors, XY Planning Network, and Financial Planning Association.
Hi there, Kim! To start off, tell us a little bit about what you do here at Clarity.
My daily tasks vary depending on the day, but in general I work with clients to put together financial plans. I also oversee all of the financial planning processes, make sure we are implementing best practices and ensure we’re at the forefront of thought leadership in the industry.
What drew you to financial planning? What do you love most about your job?
I was drawn to financial planning because I really love working with people and helping them to live their awesome lives.
My favorite part of being a financial planner is the relationships we build with our clients. I love getting to be a decision-making partner with people. Being there when they have big opportunities come up and when challenges come up, and getting walk that journey with them.
What do you like to do after hours?
In my off hours, I am a mom and a wife. I have two daughters – Eva, 13, and Kristin, 10 – as well as my husband Nikolai. We spend a lot of time together adventuring.
We like to go to the mountains and travel in general. I also volunteer a lot at my church and at the women’s shelter.
I drink a lot of tea. I like to drink tea chase the sun!
Your secret talent?
I can do a pretty good handstand!
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
“Shoop” by Salt-N-Pepa.
You’ve traveled far and wide in your life – but which would you pick: mountain, ocean or lake?
Ocean, definitely. I love all of those geographic features, but I would choose the ocean and beaches -preferably the Mediterranean or somewhere tropical..
What are you most excited for in 2023?
Professionally, I’m really excited about growing our team here at clarity and being able to serve more clients. Personally, I’m planning to backpack Mount Hood this summer. I’m excited and terrified! That’s the longest backpacking trip I’ve ever taken, but also I’m looking forward to it.
If you could have lunch with anyone, who would you choose?
I would have lunch with Jesus – and Mary if I could have two people!
If you could go back to any historical time period, which would you choose?
I guess going along with the theme of lunch with Jesus and Mary, if I could go to the time of Jesus, it would be such an interesting perspective to get to walk around and see what was going on around then.
Who is someone that has had a big influence on your life?
The first person that comes to my mom. She immigrated here to the U.S. with my sister and I when we were both really young and embarked on this crazy adventure. That bold move changed all of our lives and opened up amazing opportunities for us. It wasn’t easy but she persevered.
What did you do on your last vacation?
The last vacation that I went on was to Greece for my cousin’s wedding, which was the trip of a lifetime. We got to hang out on beaches, swim in turquoise water and enjoy beautiful, spectacular scenery everywhere while eating awesome food and hanging out with my family from all over the world.
